Rotary Airlock Valve Leakage Causes and Fixes

Air leakage reduces conveying efficiency and can cause unstable feeding. Most leakage problems are linked to rotor clearance, shaft sealing, pressure difference or a valve that was not selected for the actual duty.

Common Causes

• Rotor tip or casing wear increases clearance
• Shaft seals are damaged or unsuitable for dust
• Pressure difference is higher than the selected valve can hold
• Material buildup prevents stable pocket filling
• Rotor speed is too high for the material

Practical Fixes

• Check clearance and compare with the original design value
• Replace seals and bearings when dust enters the drive side
• Use coating or hardened contact surfaces for abrasive powders
• Select a pressure-balanced or customized seal structure for pneumatic conveying

• Repeated leakage after seal replacement
